Custody
The juvenile court has jurisdiction over different types of matters involving minor children. The juvenile court has jurisdiction over custody, support and parenting time of children born to unwed parents.
Dependency
In Ohio, a dependency case alleges that a parent needs assistance in properly caring for a child, by no fault of their own. In these types of cases, the family may be put on a “safety plan” allowing the children to stay in the home if certain conditions are met, or the court may require that the parent/guardian(s) complete a case plan, which may include: parenting classes, domestic violence classes, drug/alcohol assessments, random drug screens, regular visits by a caseworker, or other objectives.
Abuse
In Ohio, an abuse case typically means that the child was allegedly harmed in some way by his/her parents or guardian.
